세계에서 아이큐가 31번째로 높은 사람이 모여 지난해 12월 송도에 과학학원을 설립하였다. 현재 이곳에서 채 1년도 교육받지 않은 평범한 아이들 중 50여명은 벌써 멘사회원으로 등록되어 주변을 놀라게 했다. 올해로 11년째 현장에서 학생들을 가르치고 있는 조상현 대표는 기존의 낡은 교육법의 한계를 내다보며 새로운 교육법을 체계화하는데 매진해 왔다. 그는 ‘두뇌훈련이 선행되어야 아이들이 지루하지 않게 효과적으로 학습에 임할 수 있다’며 ‘무엇보다 학업성취, 정서적 지원, 어려움 극복 효능감이 충족되어야 우리 아이들이 행복하다는 것을 명심해야 한다’고 강조했다. 연이은 학생들의 멘사가입 소식과 완벽내신의 신화로 송도를 뜨겁게 달구고 있는 조상현 대표를 만나 SAC시스템학원만의 독자적인 교육 비법에 대해 전해 듣는다.

과학수업과 두뇌훈련을 병행하여 배움의 즐거움과 성취감을 높이다

송도국제도시를 명품교육의 도시로 변화시키는 있는 SAC시스템학학원의 조상현 대표는 미스테리움 소사이어티 결과 IQ가 세계 31위로 나타난 세계를 대표하는 천재다. 그는 현재 엘리트 하이아이큐 소사이어티 정회원, Global Genius Generation Group (4G) 정회원, 인터내셔널 하이아이큐 소사이어티 정회원, 시그마코리아 정회원 외 여러 천재집단에서 활발히 활동하고 있다. “원래는 의사가 되는 것이 오랜 꿈이었죠. 하지만 한 번에 한 사람을 살리는 것보다 선생으로서 따뜻한 마음을 교육하여 훌륭한 인재들을 만들고, 그 인재들이 또 더 많은 인재들을 배출하도록 하는 것이 더 가치 있는 일이라고 생각하게 되었습니다.”

SAC시스템학학원은 자체 개발한 두뇌 훈련프로그램인 DWMT를 통해서 학생들의 무궁무진한 두뇌 능력을 개발하고, 궁극적으로 학업성적이 향상될 수 있도록 돕는다. 조 대표와 두뇌훈련전문가 홍은경 선생님이 오랜 연구 끝에 공동으로 개발한 DWMT는 총 5가지 단계별 프로그램으로 진행된다. 우선 첫 번째 단계인 Number Counting을 이수하면, 차례로 Spatial Training, Numerical Training, Verbal Training을 공부하게 되고 마지막으로 Combination을 거치게 되는 데 모든 과정을 마스터하는데 약 6개월 정도의 시간이 소요된다. “실제 보통의 아이큐를 가진 학생들이 꾸준한 두뇌훈련을 통해 아이큐가 업그레이드되는 결과를 도출했죠. 특히 저희 학원 출신들이 멘사합격과 각종 경시대회에서 우수한 성적을 거두는 사례가 빈번한데 올 해만도 멘사가입 학생이 50명에 이르고 있습니다.” 

SAC시스템학학원은 최첨단 뇌파측정장비를 이용하여 학생들의 상태변화를 직접 확인하고 있으며, 게임방식의 학습 소프트웨어를 함께 진행하여 아이들의 스트레스는 감소시키고 학업 성취감은 극대화하고 있다. 

학업성취, 정서적 지원, 어려움 극복 효능감에 주목하다 

조 대표는 다년간 더 높은 차원의 질 좋은 교육에 대한 방법을 모색해 왔다. 그는 올해에도 대만에서 열리는 국제심리학회에 참여하는 등 다양한 자료들을 바탕으로 연구에 연구를 거듭해 나가고 있으며, ‘한국 청소년들은 학업청취, 정서적 지원, 어려움 극복 효능감이라는 세 가지의 요건이 충족되어야 본인이 행복하다고 느낀다’고 밝힌 인간발달학회장 박영신 교수의 연구에 주목했다. SAC시스템학원만의 두뇌훈련 프로그램도 박 교수의 이론을 바탕으로 학업 성취감을 극대화하기 위해 고안해 낸 것이었다. 조 대표는 두뇌훈련 프로그램을 통해 집중력, 수리산술능력, 공간지각능력 등 학생들에게 부족한 부분을 조기에 발견하고, 그 능력을 키워주고자 노력해 왔다. 이런 일련의 과정을 통해 실력이 향상되는 모습을 보이면 정서적인 지원을 아끼지 않았다. 특히 조 대표가 아이들에게 어려움 극복효능감을 심어주고자 처음 아이디어를 낸 ‘별무리’는 고등학교 멘사회원들이 주축이 된 봉사단체로 더욱 의미 있는 행보를 이어나가고 있다. “저는 그저 방향만 제시했을 뿐입니다. 아이들이 스스로 집 주변의 독거노인들을 파악하고 노인들을 위해 무엇을 해줄 수 있는지 함께 고민한 거죠. 그 과정이 쉽지만은 않았지만 아이들은 기특하게 해냈고, 어려움을 극복하기 위한 효능감이 점차 커지면서 자신의 삶을 스스로 더 행복하게 꾸려나갈 수 있게 되었습니다.” 

이밖에도 SAC시스템학학원은 SAC 컨비아 입학컨설팅 프로그램을 운영하여 중등부 과학고· 자사고·특목고의 입학대비 자기소개서 첨삭지도와 고등부 입학사정관 대비 계획수립, 자기소개서 첨삭지도, 학부모 SKY 합격대비 스펙 준비 및 작성 요령 등을 지도하고 있다. 또한 직업 관련 전문가들과의 만남을 통해 학생들에게 현실적인 삶의 방향을 제시해주고 있으며, 면접에 대비해 스피치 전문가들이 모인 ‘스피치리움’의 선생님들과의 만남도 주선하고 있다. 특히 SAC 하늘정원은 심리상담 전문가들이 모여 학습에 흥미를 느끼지 못하는 아동은 물론 각박한 삶으로 인해 지친 성인들까지 모두의 마음을 따스하게 보듬어주는 역할을 담당하고 있다. “훗날 교육학 교수가 되겠다는 새로운 꿈을 구체화하고 있습니다. 더 다양한 기관을 통해 학생들을 교육하고 그 과정에서 얻게 된 저만의 노하우를 체계화하여 언젠가는 대한민국의 교육을 책임져나갈 예비 교사들에게 참 된 교육의 가치를 전파하는 교육자가 되고자 합니다.” 이렇듯 조 대표의 진정성 있는 교육 아래 지성뿐만 아니라 인성까지도 훌륭하게 자라나고 있는 우리 아이들, 그들이 어려운 우리 이웃들과 손을 맞잡고 더 찬란한 대한민국의 미래로 자유롭게 비상해주기를 기대해 보겠다.

The person who has the world's 31st highest IQ established a science academy in Songdo last December. The academy surprised the people around when 50 of their normal students were registered to Mensa within a year. Sanghyun Jo, the CEO of the academy, has been teaching in the field for 11 years and exerting his efforts to systematize new educational methods as he sees the limitation of the existing methods. He emphasized that brain training should come first so that students can learn effectively and students can be happy by fulfilling the efficacy of academic achievements, emotional support, and overcoming difficulty. Power Korea has met Jo and heard about SAC System Academy's unique teaching secrets.

Improving a sense of accomplishment through science lessons & brain training.

Jo, the CEO of SAC System Academy, is turning Songdo International City into a fine educational city. He has the world's 31st highest IQ according to the result from The Mysterium Society. Currently, he is a full member of Elite High IQ Society, Global Genius Generation Group(4G), International High IQ Society, and Sigma Korea. Jo said "I wanted to be a doctor. But I thought it is more meaningful to be a teacher to promote talented people so that the people can promote even more talented people." 

SAC System Academy helps students to improve their brain capacity and academic performance through their self-developed brain training programme called DWMT. Jo and a brain training specialist Eunkyung Hong jointly developed DWMT and it is processed in 5 difference levels. It takes 6 months to master all the levels from  Number Counting, Spatial Training, Numerical Training, Verbal Training, and Combination. Jo said "we drew a result that normal students get their IQ upgraded through our continuous brain training. It is common that our students achieve excellent results from various contests not to mention to be members of Mensa." 

SAC System Academy is monitoring the students' change of conditions by using a cutting edge brain wave measuring device, and running a game-style learning software to reduce their stress while maximize their sense of accomplishment. 

Highlighting on the efficacy of academic achievement, emotional support, and overcoming difficulty.

Jo has been looking for higher level of teaching methods. He is researching based on various materials and participated in International Counseling Psychological Association in Taiwan. He paid attention to professor Youngshin Park, the director of The Korean Association of Human Development, who argues that the Korean youths can feel happy when the efficacy of academic achievement, emotional support, and overcoming difficulty are fulfilled. SAC System Academy's brain training programme was designed by the professor's theory to maximize the sense of academic accomplishment. Jo wants to detect the student's insufficient parts such as concentration, calculation, and space perception, in earlier stage and improve those abilities through the programme. And if students show their improvement, Jo provides emotional supports for them. 

Jo established a high school mensa volunteer organization called 'Beyeolmuri(star group)' to do something good for the society. It originally started with Jo's idea to give children the resiliency of efficacy. Jo said "I only suggested a direction. Then the students voluntarily thought of what they could do to help the elderly living alone around the area. It wasn't an easy task but they did it. Their resiliency of efficacy has been increased and they can make their lives happier as a result." 

Meanwhile, SAC System Academy provides services such as writing a letter of self-introduction and preparing a spec for entering top high schools and universities based on their SAC Convia Admission Consulting Programme. They also provide practical direction of life through meeting with industry specialists, and arrange a meeting with interview specialists for entrance or job interviews. SAC Sky Garden, in particular, plays the role that the psychology consultation experts encourage both the children who have lost interest in learning, and the adults who are tired of a tough life. Jo said "I'm realizing my dream to be a professor of pedagogy. I want to educate students through more various organizations, and systematize my know-how, and deliver true values of education to preliminary teachers who will take the responsibility of the Korea's education." Under his truthful education, the children's intelligence and character are growing and Power Korea is looking forward to the children flying high for the future of Korea.
