After letting go of the sculpture of copying exactly what he sees, sculptor Park Jang-keun chose the philosophic work of expressing his abstract way of thinking. When we see his works, some give the feeling of deep philosophy without need to explain while others give a clearer meaning with his explanation. He also says he aims toward the work style of social and philosophical meaning in an inclination of proposal. Thinking it is when an author criticizes or admits the society and expresses his felt message through work that presents him with the meaning of work, he has expressed an upright will with his work since the beginning. 

When he started sculpture, our society was seeing the spread of free economy system and the realism in fine arts gradually displaced by postmodernism. As one of artists, he went through lots of trouble and then completely turned the direction of his art from simply showing things into feeling and expression. This has finally settled as a base in his artwork so far until lifting the level enough to make the public certainly aware of what Park Jang-keun¡¯s sculpture is. 

His early work ¡®Passing the winter¡¯ carved the human body supported by one leg with overflowing energy for muscles and tendons in delicate expression, while seeming to suppress that energy for the upper body bent over as if under gravitation. This suggests how much he is troubled over his work and, on the other hand, it seems to be the work of expressing the desire of humans sunk in the dichotomy of thinking by means of the human body. Besides, another of his work ¡®Dreamer¡¯ shows the shape of the crouched human body extending itself upwards with two arms grabbing the head and the collar fluttering in the opposite direction of human body facing the wind. This also expresses many kinds of human desire implicitly speaking for the author who had been getting along in agony by alluding to his own dichotomy of thinking and artwork. Since the earnest beginning of work, he has expressed many meanings and substituted himself for them in accordance with the principle of no value without the author¡¯s philosophy in because ¡®art represents the person¡¯s thoughts.¡¯ Initially, he had not been a student of art. When he resumed his life as a late bloomer, he had such desire and thirst for expression. His speech for himself, strong expression of human desire and the society¡¯s unneeded silence in his work may have originated in his repressed artistic desire. Besides, his decision to make a good representational work himself after finding as an art major that there were few works of legitimate representation among domestic sculptural works seems to have served him with the representational sculpture in his mind now. He has risen to the place of recognition in people¡¯s attention and even among artists with his current work of ¡®representational sculpture by thoughts¡¯ basically because he made works which enabled the spectators to think, feel and substitute themselves for. That is, though the author expresses the meaning of his own starting with the work, the emotional frame breaks by different viewers making the work act as a medium that has another meaning. This, rather than emphasizing a fixed frame to spectators, expresses many emotions in the work for their own completion of new work and throws a medium to them who can take out any emotion they want to. By this, author Park Jang-keun completed the cycle for communicating with the public and projecting the emotional energy earned from them into another new work. Currently, according to him, he is now engaging in work with the theme of ¡®caring for¡¯ in more composure and adjustment in the same vein as the initial work. This must mean that as he gradually nears the public, he has found the direction of work that can admit their emotions in his own space in more proximity to them. This explains how he has been reborn as a respectable author among the masses and artists, for he is currently acting as the art director at Icheon International Sculpture Symposium, head of Icheon Sculptors Association, etc. He said that for the future he wanted to leave works with posthumous artistic values by producing work for communicating with the public rather than for winning popularity from them. He also said he would aim his work toward the nature of the times to express his feelings in life expressing his wish to get along in life as an artist still in progress by feeling his limitations through work and then overcoming them.
