Practices the spirit of sharing through

a ¡®purple-colored gift from the God¡¯

Keep fit with blueberry easily and conveniently.

Yegrain Farming Cooperative

Moon Soon Boon president

¡°If you want to know where you have left the car keys, eat blueberry.¡± is an English proverb. So much is blueberry widely known to help increase the memory of a brain. This is not all. Blueberry, selected as one of the ten major health foods of the world by the US Time, has revealed its many positive functions. Typical examples include maintaining eyesight, relieving cardiac disorder, preventing osteoporosis, facilitating bone growth, anticancer effect, preventing obesity and diabetes, etc. Especially, its anthocyanin component, a purple-colored coloring matter, is effective in relieving the eye fatigue and stopping altered vision. In accordance with the trend, many domestic regions, including Chungyang, have started to produce blueberries. Power Korea Monthly will introduce the admiration for the ¡®purple-colored gift from God.¡¯ The cooperative Moon Soon Boon president says, ¡°We are going to share happiness with thirty thousand people related to Yegrain Farming Cooperative through blueberry.¡±

Blueberry, a god-given present grown in rain and wind

Moon Soon Boon president started her admiration for blueberry, saying, ¡°The purple-colored blueberry is a God¡¯s gift growing in rain, wind and sunshine.¡± Blueberry, resistant to damage from disease and harmful insects, is an eco-friendly food without need to use agrichemicals. It has a very large extent of application for blueberry red pepper paste, oil-and-honey pastry, sauce, etc., not to mention wine. Domestic products are four times as high in the content of antocyanin, a typical component of blueberries. Besides, blueberry is cultivated by cuttage because it has no seed. Cuttage means making an independent plant by cutting off part of the plant life such as branch, leaf, root, etc. and sticking in the seedbed soil to bring the lacking root or sprout out. Moon Soon Boon president said, ¡°Though our country has the climate suited for growing blueberries, we suffered difficulty in the past because there was no acid compost. However, our farm has brought acid compost from Russia and there is no problem in cultivation.¡± Besides, the cooperative developed products of blueberry juice by adding the traditional natural food, such as omija (fruits of schisandra chinensis), sansuyu (Korean cornelian cherry), sanyak (yarn), longan, etc., to homegrown blueberry juice to make biorhythm active. She said, ¡°It is said that eating many blueberries makes your vision better. This sort of tale being good for vision originated from a Brutish Air Force pilot¡¯s testimony in World War II that ¡°I ate my bread applying the same thickness of blueberry jam on it and consequently found myself able to see things well in the dimmest light.¡± The president then mentioned the efficacy of blueberry, ¡°Besides, it has excellent effect on preventing geriatric diseases, constipation and aging.¡±

Prepared to find a Chinese market with self-developed products of blueberry

Chungyang is very famous for clean air and water. Chungyang-gun known for ¡®Chungyang red pepper¡¯ invited a full-scale support to brand its ¡®blueberry¡¯ locally. To the question ¡°Why Chungyang?¡± Moon Soon Boon president explained, ¡°Chungyang has an excellent soil and climate. It has cleaner air and water than most other regions in this country. With the soil quality suited for blueberry, it is a remote place in the mountains and you can drink its valley water as it is. It is also excellent in drainage because of silty soils.¡± In such Chungyang with clean air and water, Yegrain Farming Cooperative is also supporting Chungyang-gun to carry on assisting the local development. Especially, the cooperative is trying hard to deliver ¡®reliable food¡¯ by facilitating the farmers with ¡®self-consumption.¡¯ He clarified, ¡°We are developing diverse products such as blueberry red pepper past, traditional cookies, oil-and-honey pastry, sauce, jam, etc. using blueberry. You see, blueberry combined with these things is unexpectedly delicious.¡± She explained that though the farming system so far has been cottage industry in structure, it is time we reorganized the distribution structure through innovation triggered by a company.¡± Applying for the first patents on blueberry jam and traditional cookies, Yegrain Farming Cooperative is preparing to advance into Chinese market with both wild Bokboonja and omija ready for application.

Corporate responsibility through blueberry

Born to a big farmer, she is most sympathetic to the farmers¡¯ life. She clarified her vision, ¡°Blueberry is born in rain clouds. Such blueberries I am planning to have consumed spontaneously through Internet caf?, etc. My goal is 100 cafes, which means around thirty thousand people concerned. We will be able to help the life of thirty thousand people through Yegrain Farming Cooperative. Availing this opportunity, I shall engage in returning our gains to the society.¡±

Yegrain is short for ¡®Jesus Christ¡¯s Line¡¯ in Korean translation. Pointing to the Taegeuk mark inscribed on the product, she emphasized, ¡°Based on faith, hope and love, we will expand our corporate responsibility to the world across the borders, like ¡®Starbucks.¡¯ It is inspiring to think of the moment when her admiration for blueberry will bear fruit not only in Korea but in foreign markets as well.
