강성희 회장이 이끄는 오텍캐리어㈜의 행보가 예사롭지 않다. 지난 2011년 글로벌기업 캐리어에어컨을 인수 합병한 강성희 회장은 세계 최대 빌딩, 산업 공조 시스템 회사로의 도약에 대한 포부를 밝혔다.

오텍캐리어는 가정용, 상업용 및 산업용 공조 전문 기업으로 2003년 국내 최초 고효율 인버터 벽걸이 에어컨을 공급했고, 세계 최초 고효율 흡수식 냉동기, 세계 최고 초절전 인버터 스크류 냉동기, 국내 최고 초절전 시스템 에어컨 등을 출시해 오고 있다.
국내 주요 랜드마크인 인천공항, 국립박물관, 킨텍스 전시관, 고리원전 시공 및 KTX 고속철 등에 공조 시스템 기술을 공급해 오고 있으며 특히, KTX의 경우 시속 300km 이상 고속에서도 냉난방을 할 수 있는 차원 높은 기술을 필요로 하는 고속열차용 냉방기를 국내에서 설계·제작·공급하는 유일한 회사다. 에너지 절약 신기술을 장착한 제품을 지속적으로 선보이며, 업계 최고 효율로 ‘소비자시민모임(소시모)’에서 주관하는 에너지위너상을 7년 연속 수상하는 등 그 기술력을 인정받고 있다.
강성희 회장은 이러한 경쟁력 있는 기술력을 토대로 빌딩 에너지 운전 효율을 최대 50%까지 개선해, 제어할 수 있는 캐리어만의 빌딩솔루션 시스템(AdVanTE3C)을 국내에 도입한다는 계획이다. 이를 위해 UTC의 자회사인 엘리베이터 전문 업체 오티스코리아와 매주 만나 진정한 엘리베이터, 공조 결합한 회사로의 도약을 위해 노력하고 있다.
이렇듯 국내 시장에서 차별화된 기술력으로 인정받고 있는 오텍캐리어는 지난 3월에는 브라질에 합작법인을 설립하고, 철도 및 고속철 에어컨, 차량용 냉동기로 중남미 및 동남아 시장 진출에 박차를 가하고 있다. 또한, 북미 및 유럽시장에 하이브리드 보일러와 같은 신기술 응용제품을 선보일 예정이며, 전 세계 180여개국 네트워크를 활용해 글로벌 마케팅 활동과 제품개발에 집중할 계획이다.
획기적인 에너지 절약 신기술 장착한 신제품 출시
강성희 회장은 획기적인 에너지 절약 신기술을 다양한 제품에 접목한 신제품을 꾸준히 선보이고 있다. 먼저, 기존 심야전기보일러를 대체하는 신개념 고효율 축열식 히트펌프 보일러인 ‘인버터 하이브리드 보일러 시스템’을 출시했다. 인버터 하이브리드 보일러는 세계적인 초절전 인버터 기술을 적용해 효율을 높이고, 히트펌프 실외기와 연동해 난방, 바닥난방, 급탕까지 가능한 친환경 고효율 시스템으로 기존 축열식 심야전기보일러 대비 67%까지 전기요금을 절감할 수 있다.
또한, 최근에는 실내 냉매배관을 사용하지 않는 친환경 냉난방 제품인 USX 히트펌프 냉동기를 출시했다. 전통적으로 냉방은 냉동기로, 난방은 보일러로 2개 시스템을 사용하는 반면, USX 히트펌프 냉동기는 1개의 시스템으로 냉난방이 가능해 건물 내 설치공간을 획기적으로 줄이고 효율을 한층 더 높인 에너지 절약 제품이다. 특히, 세계 최고의 부분부하 효율 COP 16을 달성해, 전기 1kW 사용 시 냉방효과를 16배 낼 수 있도록 했다.
혁신사고·기술혁신 통한 가정용, 상업용 신제품으로 매출 상승
강성희 회장은 내수 시장 확대를 위해 가정용, 상업용 에어컨의 디자인을 과감히 개선해 기술력에 디자인을 겸비한 신제품을 출시하고, 2년 연속 배우 이보영을 광고 모델로 활용해 국내 시장을 공략하고 있다.
일명 ‘이보영 에어컨’이라 불리는 립스틱플러스 에어컨은 세련된 디자인과 다양한 컬러로 소비자의 니즈를 만족시키고 있다. 캐리어만의 초절전 DC하이브리드 인버터 기술을 채용해 에너지 효율을 높였으며, 국내 최대 20m까지 차가운 바람을 스트레이트로 보내 거실부터 주방까지 강력한 냉방을 실현시켜 준다. 또한, 캐리어 S 플러스 에어컨은 우아함과 여성미를 강조한 디자인에 광범위한 작동 운전 온도로 사계절 사용이 가능하고, 토출구 크기를 50% 확장해 빠른 냉방으로 쾌적함을 더했다.
두 제품 모두 머리카락 굵기의 1/200 먼지를 99.99% 걸러주고, 교체가 필요 없는 ifD(전자제어헤파필터)를 국내 최초로 에어컨에 독점 적용해, 더욱 깨끗한 바람을 사계절 내내 안심하고 사용할 수 있도록 했다. 뿐만 아니라 캐리어의 일등 효자상품인 중대형 에어컨에도 유럽감성의 판넬 디자인과 터치스크린을 적용한 ‘에코그린 인버터 냉난방기’를 선보였다. 에코그린 인버터 냉난방기는 사용시간이 긴 장소에 적합한 벡터 제어 인버터를 채용해 국내 최고 수준의 에너지 소비 효율을 자랑하며, 정속형 대비 30~50% 가량 유지비 감소에 도움이 된다. 수시 관리와 점검이 힘든 경상업 이용자를 배려해 셀프클리닝 자동건조 시스템을 탑재 했으며, 과부하를 방지하는 운전전류 제한기능과 사용자 외에 임의 운전 변경을 차단하는 잠금기능, 압축기 수명을 연장시킬 수 있는 오일 회수 기능 등 다양한 시스템을 적용했다.
이 밖에 국내 최저 수준 소비전력으로 에너지 효율 1등급을 실현한 제습기 신제품도 9종을 출시했다. 캐리어 제습기는 도서관 소음, 생활 소음보다 더 조용하게 사용할 수 있도록 제품의 진동을 최소화해 국내 최고 저소음 기술을 획득했으며, 높은 제습 용량과 자동 제상기능 및 3단계 풍량 조절로 강력한 제습을 실현하며, 의류건조기능, 타이머 기능, 만수 시 자동 정지 기능 등을 탑재했다. 보다 쾌적한 실내환경 조성을 위해 음이온 방출 기능과 실내 온도 조건에 따라 박테리아가 성장할 수 없는 가장 쾌적한 수준의 습도인 45~55%의 실내습도를 자동으로 유지시켜 주는 스마트 제습 기능이 적용됐다.

The recent move of Autech Carrier is quite a big deal. Kang, who merged and took over a global enterprise 'Carrier Aircon' in 2011, said that he will make the company the world's biggest building & industry cooperation system company.

Autech Carrier is a specialized air conditioning company for domestic, commercial and industrial use. They supplied for the first time in Korea a high efficiency inverter wall air-conditioner in 2003, and has been releasing the world's first high efficiency absorption refrigerating machine, as well as the world's best power-saving inverter screw refrigerating machine and the Korea's best power-saving system air-conditioner. They have been providing air conditioning technology to the Korea's major landmarks such as Incheon International Airport, The National Museum, Kintex Exhibition Hall, Gori Nuclear Reactor and KTX (Korea Express Train). They are the sole company which made air conditioner, with their own technology from design, produce to supply, for high speed train like KTX that has to run at more than 300km per hour. They proved their technical skills and their product's energy efficiency by winning the 'Energy Winner's Prize' from Consumers Korea for 7 years in a row. With this competitive skills, Kang is planning to introduce their own building solution system 'AdVanTE3C' in Korea by improving the energy operating efficiency up to 50%. To implement this plan, he is regularly meeting with an elevator producing company 'OTIS Korea'(a subsidiary company of UTC) every week to cooperate. Autech Carrier established a joint venture in Brazil last March to supply air conditioner for high speed trains and cars and is expanding their market in Central and South America and South East Asia. They are also planing to introduce new products such as Hybrid Boiler in North America and Europe, and to do marketing and product development by using global networks of 180 countries.
Brand new products installed with energy-saving technology
Kang is constantly unveiling various new products installed with new energy-saving technology. He released high efficiency regenerative heat pump 'Invertible Hybrid Boiler System' as an alternative to late-night electric boiler. It uses global power-saving inverter technology to improve efficiency and can reduce the electricity bill up to 67% compared to late-night electric boiler by interlocking outdoor heat pump that can enable floor heating and hot water supply. They also have released eco-friendly 'USX Heat Pump Refrigerator Machine' which does not use indoor refrigerant pipes. Traditionally, it uses 2 systems like air conditioning which is done by refrigerator and heating which is done by boiler. However, USX Heat Pump Refrigerator Machine uses only 1 system that can enable both air conditioning and heating to save energy. Especially, it achieved the world's best partial load efficiency COP 16 to generate air conditioning effect 16 times more when using 1kw of electricity.
Innovative thinking, innovative technology
In order to grow domestic market, Kang ventured to improve designs of domestic and commercial air conditioner and released a new product which has been advertised by actor Lee Boyoung for 2 years in a row. Known as 'Lee Boyoung Aircon', this lipstick plus air conditioner is satisfying the consumers' needs with sophisticated design and a variety of colours. Using their own DC Hybrid Inverter Technology to improve energy efficiency, it provides powerful cooling from the livingroom to the kitchen by sending the cool wind up to 20 meters. On the other hand, Carrier S Plus Air Conditioner boasts its gracious and feminine design and wide range of operating temperature so that it can be used throughout the year, and also the size of the outlet is 50% expanded for fast cooling.
Both air conditioners filter 99.99% of dust that is 1/200 of diameter of a human hair. And for the first time they exclusively applied replacement-free filter 'IFD' to the air conditioners for clean and safe use. In addition, they also introduced their top selling medium and large size air conditioner 'Eco Green Inverter Chiller/Heater' which has panel design and touch screen. This chiller/heater employed vector control inverter which is suitable when using it long time and boasts the best energy efficiency, and compared to constant velocity type, it reduces up to 30~50% of maintenance expenses. It is loaded with self-cleaning and auto-dry system for cleaning free, current limiter for preventing electric overload, locking device for preventing random users to operate, oil retrieving function for extending lifespan of compressor. They also released 9 kinds of dehumidifiers which have the first energy efficiency rating. Carrier dehumidifiers have topnotch low noise technology which is quieter than a library noise as well as high dehumidifying capacity and three level air volume control, and are loaded with clothes-dry function, timer and auto-stop function when the water gets full. Smart Dehumidifying Function, which releases anions and prevents bacteria to grow by sustaining the indoor humidity level between 45 and 50%, is also applied to provide pleasant indoor environment.
