글로벌 경영 리스크 관리, 진출국 정책 이해 및 정부와의 소통이 중요

전경련은 지난달 7월 9일, 전경련 컨퍼런스센터에서 전직 미국 행정부 인사들을 연사로 초청한 가운데 ‘앞서가는 글로벌 기업을 위한 국가별 동향과 전략’ 이라는 주제로 2014 국제협력위원회(위원장: 정진행 현대자동차 사장)를 개최하였다. 정진행 위원장은 인사말을 통해 “글로벌 무대에서 활약하는 우리기업들이 세계 각 지역에서 법률적, 정치적 위험에 노출되고 있으며, 리스크 요소들을 사전 관리하여 분쟁발생에 대응하고 경쟁우위의 요소로 활용해야 한다”고 강조했다. 이날 회의는 존 카일(Jon Kyl) 前 美 상원위원, 아르투로 발렌수엘라(Arturo Valenzuela) 前 美 국무부 차관보, 티모시 스트렛포드(Timothy Stratford) 前 美 무역대표부 대표보 등 최근까지 미국정부에서 활동해 온 3명 연사의 발표 및 질의응답으로 이루어졌다. 미국 규제당국과의 네트워킹 강화를 통한 사업 리스크 관리 방안에 대해 브리핑한 존 카일 前 상원위원은 “미국 정부와 각종 기관은 기능적으로 복잡하게 얽혀 있어 특정 사안 발생 시 미국 기업조차도 적절한 대처가 어렵다. 최근의 리콜 사태에 덮어두기 식으로 대응한 도요타 사례에서 보듯이 잘못 대처하면 금전적 손해뿐만 아니라 기업 이미지 실추에 따르는 타격이 막대하다”고 경고하였다. “글로벌 기업들은 미국 정책 과정에 대한 이해를 기반으로, 투자지역 상·하원의원과의 우호관계 구축 등 규제당국과의 소통 통로를 사전에 확립해 놓아야 한다”고 강조했다. 이날 회의에는 정진행 국제협력위원회 위원장, 이승철 전경련 부회장, 염동관 한국플랜트협회 부회장, 정택근 GS글로벌 사장, 정태화 STX중공업 사장, 이종철 삼일회계법인 대표, 임병갑 수출입은행 해외경제연구소장 등 20여 명이 참석했다.
전경련, 제1차 기업 사회공헌 아카데미 개최
사회와 공감하는 기업 사회공헌 비결 공유합니다!
기업 사회공헌도 문화·교육 등 다수가 누릴 수 있는 영역으로 확장되고 있으며, 소비자 등 다양한 이해관계자들의 참여도 더욱 확대되고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 전국경제인연합회(이하 전경련)는 지난달 15일 전경련회관 컨퍼런스센터에서 기업 사회공헌 담당자 200여 명이 참석한 가운데 이러한 내용을 주제로 「2014년 제1차 기업 사회공헌 아카데미」를 개최하였다. 전경련 이용우 상무는 인사말을 통해 “우리 기업들의 사회공헌은 양적으로 성장했다”면서 “국민과의 소통도 지금보다 더 잘 이루어진다면 사회공헌 활동이 더욱 효과적으로 이루어질 것”이라고 밝혔다. 이날 강연은 세션1 ‘기업 사회공헌, 새롭게 디자인하다’와 세션2 ‘기업 사회공헌, 효과적 커뮤니케이션이 필요하다’, 그리고 참가자와 발표자간 토론이 이루어지는 세션3 ‘소그룹 토론’으로 나뉘어 진행되었다. 세션1 주제 발표를 맡은 김기룡 플랜엠(기업 사회공헌 컨설팅社) 대표는 국내외 기업들의 기업 사회공헌 활동들이 소외계층 대상의 사회복지 영역에서 일반인들을 대상으로 한 문화·교육 등의 영역으로 확장되고 있으며, 예술을 활용한 아동 심리치료 프로그램 등 영역 간 융합이 일어나고 있다고 진단하였다. 전경련 관계자는 이번 아카데미의 취지에 대해 “우리 기업들의 사회공헌 활동 노력에 비해 국민적 체감은 낮은 경향이 있다”며 “대중들도 공감하는 우수 기업 사회공헌 활동들의 노하우를 공유하는 것이 필요하다고 보고 이러한 논의의 장을 마련하였다”고 설명하였다.
Emphasis on global risk management, understanding of policies and communication with government

FKI held 2014 International Cooperation Committee (chairman: Jeong Jinhang, CEO of Hyundai Motors) at the conference centre of FKI in July 9th, under the name of 'Trends & Strategies of Each Country for Leading Global Enterprise', inviting the former US adminstration officials as speakers. Jeong emphasized in his greetings that the Korean companies abroad are being exposed to legal and political dangers and it is important to manage the risk elements beforehand to counteract disputes and to be more competitive. Former US Senate Jon Kyl, former Assistant Secretary of State Arturo Valenzuela and former Assistant of US Trade Representative Timothy Stratford took the platform and the presentation of each speaker was followed by a question and answer session. Jon Kyl, who briefed on business risk management plan, which should be done through reinforcement of networking with US regulators, said that the US government and organizations are functionally interwoven and it is difficult even for the US companies to handle when certain issues arise. Taking the recall of Toyota (a Japanese car giant) and their not transparent correspondence to it as an example, Jon warned that if we mishandle a situation, the damage will be enormous as it tarnishes the company's image. He also stressed that global companies are advised to establish communication pathways with regulators by understanding of the US policies and building up friendly relations between Senators and Congressmen within the investment zone. Around 20 people participated in the conference including Lee Sungchul the vice president of FKI, Yum Dongkwan the vice president of Korea Plant Industries Association, Geon Geuntek the CEO of GS Global, Geong Tewha the CEO of STX Heavy Industry, Lee Johngchul the CEO of Samil Pricewaterhouse Coopers, and Lim Byeongkab the director of Overseas Economic Research in the Export and Import Bank of Korea.
FKI held The First Corporate Social Contribution Academy
It appeared that a company's social contribution is expanding to the area of culture and education in which majority of people are active and so is the participation of its interested parties and consumers. With this topic in mind, FKI (The Federation of Korean Industries) held an academy under the name of '2014 The First Corporate Social Contribution Academy' at the conference centre of FKI on the 15th of last month with the participation of 200 persons in charge of Corporate Social Contribution. Lee Yongwoo the executive director of FKI said in his greetings that "the Korean companies' social contribution has grown in quantity and it will be more effective if they communicate with people with open mindedness." The lectures on the academy was processed in three different sessions: session 1 as 'Designing A New Corporate Social Contribution', session 2 as 'Corporate Social Contribution Needs An Effective Communication', and session 3 as 'Small Group Discussion'. In the session 1 representation Kim Kiryeong the CEO of Planm (a social contribution consulting company) diagnosed that both Korean and foreign companies' social contribution is expanding from charitable works for the less fortunate to culture and education for the general public. He also said that the convergence of different areas is being practiced through, for example, child psychotherapy programmes by using art. Regarding the purpose of this academy, an official of FKI said that "the interests of the general public in corporate social contribution is low and therefore we thought it is necessary to share our know how to get their agreeable respond."
