여성특유의 부드러움과 카리스마를 더해 선한 영향력을 끼치다

기업파티, 행사진행, 에이전시를 아우르는 이벤트 전문그룹

최근 한국 여성리더의 활약은 여성이라서 더 힘든 분야에서도 때때로 나타나고 있다. 여성리더들은 사회 곳곳에서 여성특유의 섬세함과 부드러움, 또 의외의 강인함과 책임감을 앞세와 21세기 한국을 이끌고 있다고 해도 과언이 아니다. 독일의 문호 괴테는 “영원히 여성적인 것이 우리를 이끌어간다”고 말했다. 레크리에이션이나, 이벤트 행사를 진행하는 MC라는 직업은 특히나 여성들이 섭렵하기엔 모래밭에서 바늘을 찾는 일 만큼 쉽지 않다. 많은 대중을 카리스마 있게 이끄는 힘이 많이 부족하기 때문이다. 그러나 이러한 MC업계에 당당히 도전장을 내밀어 업계를 이끄는 여성리더로서 부르기에 부족함이 없는 아름다운 여성이 있다. 현재 젤엠씨이벤트를 설립한 CEO이자, 행사MC, 아나운서, 레크리에이션 강사, TBN 교통캐스터로도 활약 중인 이지희 MC가 바로 그녀다. 그녀를 만났다. 

우연한 계기로 시작한 돌잔치MC, 분야를 선도하는 젤엠씨이벤트

대학교 진학당시 전자통신과를 전공했던 이지희 대표는 아르바이트로 우연하게 돌잔치 MC를 하게 됐다. 돌잔치 MC를 하면서 그녀는 많은 사람들 앞에서 마이크를 잡고 자신감 있게 진행하며 사람을 만나는 일들이 자신에게 잘 맞는다는 생각에 일에 확신을 가지게 됐고, 졸업 후에 진로를 바꿔서 이벤트MC 회사로서 젤엠씨이벤트를 창업하게 된다. 창업 초기인 2008년 회사의 주된 일은 돌잔치 MC였다. 조금씩 인지도가 상승되자 레크리에이션 MC일도 들어오게 되었고, 이 대표의 MC로서의 역량은 이때부터 점차 커져나가기 시작했다. 돌잔치 MC는 일의 특성상 스펙트럼이 작고 단순한 것에 반면, 레크리에이션 MC는 규모도 크고 진행방식도 복잡한편에 속했다. 이 대표는 그때부터 MC로서 전문성을 강화하기 위해서 관련 서적들을 통해 지식을 쌓고 아나운서 아카데미를 수료하여 자신의 발음과 발성을 보완해 나갔다. 그녀의 이러한 노력은 평상시에도 끊임없이 계속됐는데, 초기에는 항상 작은 녹음기를 들고 다녔다고 한다. 녹음기를 통해 주의 사람들과의 커뮤니케이션을 할 때 실수는 없었는지 확인하고 녹음내용을 들으며 좀 더 말하는 방법을 고치고 다듬었다. 결과적으로 이지희 대표는 현재 여성 MC로 아나운서에서 레크리에이션까지 두루 진행할 수 있는 특별한 MC가 됐다. 현재 이지희 대표가 운영 중인 젤엠씨이벤트는 삼성, 교보, SK, 한국지엠 등 주로 대기업의 공식행사부터 아나운서 섭외가 필요한 회사워크샵, 컨퍼러스, 포럼 또 레크리에이션 MC로 대학 MT, 축제, 체육대회, 돌잔치 등 다양한 분야에서 활약을 펼치고 있다. 

PARTY.JHAEL, MIC.JHAEL, JHAEL MCEVENT 사업분야별 전문화 시켜

세 개의 분야를 통합한 그룹 젤(Group. JHAEL)로 성장해

올 해 창업7년차를 맞고 있는 이지희 대표는 요즘 그 어느 때보다도 중요하고 바쁜 시기 이다. 그 동안 이벤트 사업을 오랫동안 하다 보니, 자연스럽게 전문인 레크리에이션 행사 분야에서부터, 기업파티, 컨퍼런스행사, MC.공연자 섭외 등 다양한 업무를 젤엠씨이벤트라는 이름으로 진행해왔다. 이제 회사의 규모도 점점 커지고, 각 사업별로 조금 더 다양화와 전문화가 필요할 때라, 각 분야별로 사업을 전문화시키고, 3개의 사업 분야를 JHAEL이라는 그룹으로 통합시키는 중이다. 먼저 기업파티, VIP초청, 프라이빗파티, 케이터링 등 파티전문사업분야인 PARTY.JHAEL 두 번째로 MC부터 시작해서 가수, 마술사, 퍼포먼스, 강연연사 섭외 등 에이전시 전문사업분야인 MIC.JHAEL 마지막으로 초창기 사업시작분야였던 레크리에이션, 축제, 워크샵, 체육대회 등 행사진행 전문사업분야인 JHAEL MCEVENT 등이다. 현재는 PARTY.JHAEL의 일환으로 젊은 남. 녀 들을 대상으로 하는 사교 테마파티를 열고 있어 파티문화의 확산을 이끌어 가고 있다. 굳이 왜 3개의 분야로 나누었냐는 질문에 이 대표는 “어떻게 보면 이벤트분야는 하나의 큰 합집합이기 때문에 다 같이 속해있다고 생각한다. 하지만 요즘 외국의 파티문화가 국내로 많이 확산되고, 특히 기업 등에서 행사시 기존의 방식을 탈피하고 파티로 기업 이미지 등의 변화를 목표로 하고 있기에, 이제 모든 행사에도 기업의 니즈를 파악하는 전문파티나 즐겁게 소통하는 이벤트진행, 그리고 1인 전문가를 초청해서 강연 등의 행사를 하는 문화의 추이로 봤을 땐 에이전시 분야로 각각 전문화 시켜야 할 시기라고 판단했다”며 앞으로 다분화 시킨 사업 분야를 각각 더 전문성 있게 이끄는 것이 목표라고 한다.

이지희 대표는 지금까지 누구한테 의지해서 도움 받지 않고 그녀만의 사업수완과 노력, 강한 정신력을 바탕으로 회사를 현재의 자리까지 성장시켰다. 그동안 바쁜 와중에도 미혼모들을 위한 재능기부와 해외봉사를 꾸준히 해온 이 대표는 “제가 영향력 있는 사람이 되어 세상에 선한 영향력을 주는 것”이라며 전문MC 후배양성을 위해 교육생을 모집하며 사업을 확장해 나갈 예정이다. 후배MC들에게 항상 무대에서 ‘긴장하지만 긴장하지 말아라’는 말을 강조하는 이지희 대표. 그녀는 여성이 쉽사리 설 수 없는 분야에서 최선을 다하며, 분야를 선도하고 있는 한국의 신여성리더다. 그룹 젤의 앞으로의 행보를 기대해본다.

An accidental opportunity to host an event, JHAEL leads the world of events

Lee hosted a birthday party for one-year-old baby by chance while she was studying electronic communication at university. She hosted the event very well and she thought meeting people through an event was the right job for her. Consequently, she established an event MC company JHAEL after graduation. She mainly hosted birthday parties for one-year-old baby when she started the business in 2008. As the company was getting more recognition she started to host recreations and Lee's ability of hosting grew bigger and bigger. A baby's one year birthday party was rather simple but to manage a recreation was quite extensive and the process was more complicated. Lee then started to accumulate a wide range of knowledge from reading and she improved her pronunciation and vocalization while she was going through an announcer academy course. She always carried a recorder to record while she was communicating with people around her so that she could check her mistakes and improve her speaking skills. As the result, she has now become a special MC who can host any forms of events from announcer to recreation. Currently, JHAEL is hosting various events for large companies such as Samsung, Kyobo, SK and GM Korea as well as relatively small events such as company workshops, conference, forums, university campus festivals, athletic meetings and a baby's one year birthday parties.

This year has been 7th year since Lee started her business and she is more than ever busy at the moment. She has been hosting a variety of events from recreations, company parties, conference to hiring MCs and performers for the events. As the scale of her company is getting bigger day by day, Lee felt a need to rearrange each event according to its area and is now processing to combine three different areas into one; Group JHAEL. The Party JHAEL manages party business such as company parties, VIP invitations, private parties and cartering. The MIC JHAEL functions as an agency and manages MCs, singers, magicians, performers and hiring lecturers. The JHAEL MCEVENT manages the process of events such as recreations, festivals, workshops and athletic meetings. They are currently hosting Social Theme Party for Jack and Jill as a part of PARTY JHAEL and leading the expansion of party culture. For the reason she divided her business into three different areas, Lee said "event field is like an assemblage which encompasses variety. But recently foreign party culture is spreading among the Korean people and many companies use events to change their images. Grasping their needs, therefore, is important. Customized parties, communication-centered events, and inviting a lecturer became a trend. So I thought it's time to specialize each area." Lee also said that it is her goal to lead these three areas professionally. 

Lee raised JHAEL by her own spirits, efforts and business sense without anyone's help. She also has been participating in social service activities such as donation of talent and global volunteering. "I want to be an influential person to give virtuous influence to the world" said Lee who is planning to expand her business by training junior MCs. She tells them "be nervous on the stage but don't be". Lee is a new woman of Korea who is leading the field which is harsh for women. I wish Lee and JHAEL a prosperous future.
