From a few years ago, Hanbok imported from China has been massively distributed at the market in Korea, with targeting at our short but huge traditional holiday. On the other hand, during this New Year¡¯s holiday, the Hanbok made of liberty material from England, which is famous for paisley and flower patterns was so popular despite of its costly price. There are two ways of looking at this situations. One is that we suggested an international way with showing various possibilities of Hanbok and the other is ithe identity gets more ambiguous with Hanbok with unknown nationality. 

However, CEO Jeon Hee-Gyeong of <BEBEDEW> ( HYPERLINK "http://www.bebedew.co.kr" www.bebedew.co.kr) who has been making only Hanbok for 20 years feels sad about the reality of traditional Hanbok can be compared to fusion Hanbok in itself. 



On a special day, ¡®bebedew¡¯ making my baby more brighter 

CEO Jeon Hee-Gyeong feels like her heart beating so fast like a girl who has to run a 100m track running whenever she is designing Hanbok, and she has been working on only this for 20 years since she got attracted by Hanbok. Since she was young, she showed her talent for painting. At 11 years old, she had watched a sewing machine, which was one of her mother¡¯s bottom drawers and made clothes for her doll. 

¡°After entering a clothing department in Hanyang University, I went to a Hanbok studio and asked them to let me work without any payment. I had to study and work at the same time, and had to work up to late many times. Then, I used to cry but it was a great chance for me to be able to learn Hanbok slowly and completely from the basic skill.¡± 

When she was studying in the university, she already gained the licenses of western fashion designer and Hanbok and afterwards, she would work as a senior designer at a famous Hanbok shop back then. But, 8 years ago, she was out to be independent to show her own design style and opened the company, ¡®bebedew¡¯. Now, her atelier is in Pangyo.  

¡°When I was studying in France, I was interested in baby clothes, so I made this brand, ¡®bebedew¡¯. Later, the reputation was gone by viral and I got lots of request of adult Hanbok. Currently, I am making from baby¡¯s Hanbok to the dead¡¯s shroud



I would like to keep the traditional Hanbok in the trend of fusion Hanbok 

CEO Jeon is thinking of the most important thing is absolutely ¡®color¡¯ while designing. Recently, as many clients want to rent Hanbok not rather customized one, so she is more focusing on that. There is a fitting process so that the client can wear to be fitted looking nicely like a customized Hanbok. Most of all, what she is aiming for via Hanbok is a traditionalism. 

¡°Of course, I am trying to make sleeves a straight line or comfortable and trendy. But, I am using our traditional Hanbok materials or I don¡¯t want to make them by letting a machine or foreign workers stitch.¡± Due to her efforts to keep the traditionalism, lately, lots of overseas Korean order his Hanbok and foreigners visit her shop quite often. CEO Jeon Hee-Gyeong continues her lectures on Hanbok and its exhibition and expressed that she wants to do something for the popularity of Hanbok with working for a meaningful part.
