서울아산병원, 세계 중증환자들의 4차 병원이 되다

미래성장을 위한 첨단 연구 인프라 구축

서울아산병원은 지난 2011년 지상 16층 지하 4층, 연면적 2만9237㎡의 최첨단 의과학 연구 시설인 '아산생명과학연구원'을 개소했다. 미국의 MD앤더슨 암센터, 존스홉킨스 병원과 같이 대규모 의학적 인프라를 갖추고 최고 수준의 임상진료와 이를 뒷받침하는 첨단 연구가 함께 이루어지는 글로벌 바이오클러스터가 국내에서도 탄생한 것이다.

미국 하버드의대 다나파버 암 연구소, 영국 임페리얼칼리지 등 세계적인 의료기관, 연구소, 사업체와 공동 연구 및 교육 협력관계를 확대해 미래성장을 위한 첨단 의학연구 인프라도 구축했다. 국내외 의과학 분야 석학들을 포함해 이곳에서 연구를 진행하는 인원만 총 1300여명. 이들은 글로벌 경쟁력을 갖춘 신약 개발과 질병의 진단 기법, 치료 방법을 개발하며 미래 국가 성장 동력인 바이오산업 발전에 앞장서고 있다.

현재 선도형 암 연구사업, 항암 선도기술 개발지원, 중재시술 로봇 개발, 줄기세포 치료 등 다양한 국책과제를 진행하고 있으며, 보건복지부 지정 연구중심병원으로서 ▷맞춤항암치료기술,▷의료용로봇시스템?의료기기, ▷만성질환 U Health관리, ▷분자영상기술개발, ▷감염질환치료법 개발, ▷성체줄기세포 기반 세포치료기술 등 여섯 가지 분야를 중점적으로 연구해나가고 있다.

Seoul Asan Medical Centre has been keeping her position as the top in the number of operations such as cancer operation, organ transplant and cardiac disorder including other 30 major diseases in Korea. It is functioning as a 4th hospital in domestic and in the world by doing 58,000 high level operations and treatments including 4,300 celioscope stomach cancer operations, 20,000 breast cancer operations, 20,000 colon cancer operations, 3,000 kidney transplants, and 3,300 liver transplantation from living donor. 12,000 average daily outpatients, 2,700 inpatients... the worse the case the more the patients go to Seoul Asan Medical Centre and their highly accumulated clinical experiences led to the world class medical skills. With this acknowledgement from the world, the foreign patients with serious illness to choose Seoul Asan Medical Centre has increased. The doctors in the world of 'Asan Alumni Association' also help foreign patients to go to Korea. Last year, 437 foreign medical scientists from 46 countries such as US, UK, Belgium, Vietnam and Mongolia visited Seoul Asan Medical Centre to experience the medical standard of the hospital. Building the most advanced research infrastructure for future

Seoul Asan Medical Centre opened its sate-of-the-art 'Asan Institute for Life Sciences' in 2011. The building is comprised of 20 floors, 16 above ground and 4 below ground covering 2,9237㎡ in total. It has large scale medical infrastructure such like MD Anderson Cancer Center and John Hopkins Hospital in the US have, and with their top quality clinical practice and research it can be called a global bio cluster. They are also expanding their cooperation by doing joint research and education with Dana-Farber Cancer Institute of Harvard University and Imperial College UK, as well as world-class medical institutions, research institutes and businesses. They have 1,300 researchers including the top scholars in the medicine and science fields developing new medicines, diagnosis methods and treatment methods. They are currently making steady progress with the national projects such as pacesetting style cancer research, supporting & developing anti-cancer treatments, developing a robot for interventional procedure and stem cell treatment. The six areas of their main focuses on research are 'techniques for customized anti-cancer treatment', 'systems for medical robots & equipments', 'management of U Heath for chronical illnesses', 'development of molecular imaging', 'development of treatment methods for infectious diseases' and 'techniques for bio-stem-cell-based cell treatment'. Seoul Asan Medical Center has been designated by the Ministry of Health and Welfare as a research-centered hospital and they will be leading the world's bio-industry with its Korea's largest clinical infrastructure that can enable basic - intermediate - clinical research.
