전건오 회장은 1967년 고향인 충남 당진에서 무작정 서울로 상경하여 낮에는 학교에서 학업에 열중하고 새벽에는 신문배달과 각종 아르바이트에 전념하였다. 혹독한 서울살이로 힘들고 지치는 나날이었지만 언젠가는 외식산업에 종사하여 성공을 쟁취하리라는 가슴 벅찬 꿈 하나로 버텨낼 수 있었다. 전 회장은 세찬 겨울 추위를 이겨내며 성공을 다짐했던 청년기가 있어 지금의 자리에 오를 수 있었다고 회상하며 “대다수의 국민들이 끼니를 거르는 일이 다반사였던 시절이었기 때문에 외식업이라는 분야에 더 매력을 느꼈는지도 모른다. 특히 입지적 특성이 좋은 김포국제공항에서 미래 성장산업인 컨벤션산업을 시도한다면 좋은 성과를 도출해 낼 것이라는 확신도 있었다”라고 말했다.

전 회장은 지난 5월 공항컨벤션웨딩 앞마당에서 ‘2014년 강서구민 나눔·섬김의 감사 잔치’를 성대하게 개최하였다. ‘진정 성공한 기업가는 자신의 성공을 이웃과 나누는 사람’이라는 선친의 뜻에 따라 매년 1억이라는 큰 금액을 기부하여 지난 16년간 이어 온 연례행사였다. 이 행사에는 2,500여명의 소외 계층들이 참석한 가운데 탤런트 전원주, 가수 배일호, 이재민, 박진도 등의 연예인들이 공연을 펼쳤으며 참석자와 함께 하는 장기자랑 및 상품 증정 시간이 마련되었다. 이에 그는 “세월호 참사 이후 행사를 진행하는 것에 고충이 많았지만 지역의 한 기업인으로서 맡은 바 소임을 다하고 싶었다. 이번 행사를 통하여 강서구의 모든 독거 노인분들과 장애우들이 외롭고 힘든 시기에 잠시나마 위안을 삼기를 바라고 있다”고 말했다.
한편 한국외식업중앙회 강서구지회장이기도 한 전 회장은 약 4,000여명의 회원들과 원활한 커뮤니티를 형성하며 지역산업 발전의 견인차 역할을 해내고 있다. 그는 회원업소의 인력난 해소를 위한 무료 직업소개소를 운영하여 3년 만에 약 5만여명의 종사원을 회원업소에 알선하는 성과를 냈으며, 각종 유관기관과 MOU를 체결하여 회원업소들의 애로사항 해소를 위한 다각적인 협력관계를 유지해 왔다. 또한 향후 회원업소의 원가절감을 위한 농산물 직거래 사업을 추진할 계획을 구체화하고 있다. 이어 전 회장은 “의제매입공제율과 청소년 주류법 등 지금의 현행법이 갖는 제도적인 문제점들을 점차적으로 해결해 나가려고 한다. 앞으로도 지역의 어른들을 섬기며, 지역의 경제발전을 위해 헌신하는 기업가가 되도록 최선을 다할 것”이라며 당찬 포부를 밝혔다.
자신의 모든 공을 한마음으로 동참해 준 직원들의 몫으로 돌리는 전건오 회장의 모습 속에서 이 시대의 진정한 기업가 정신을 엿볼 수 있었다.

Chairman Jun went up to Seoul without any plan from his hometown Dangjin, Chungnam in 1967 and started a new life there by studying at school in the daytime and working as a newsboy with various other part time jobs from early in the morning. The life in Seoul was really harsh but he endured the hard times with his ambitious dream that one day he would succeed in the food service industry. Jun recollected that surviving the bitter cold of winter and the determination to succeed in his youth made him to be here today, saying, "I might have been attracted to the food service industry because most people skipped their meals often at that time. I had this conviction that if I tried in the convention industry in a good location such as Gimpo International Airport I would succeed."

16 years of continuing the love of the locals
Chairman Jun hosted '2014 Inhabitants of Gangseo-gu Share, Serve, Thanks Festival' at the front garden of his Wedding Hall last May. It was a yearly event that has been going on for 16 years in accordance with his father's will "A truly successful entrepreneur is someone who can share his success with his neighbour." 2,500 disadvantaged people were invited to this event, and actor Chun Wonju and singer Bae Ilho, Lee Jaemin and Park Jin also performed alongside a talent show and an awards ceremony. "It was difficult to push ahead with the event because of the ferry Sewol disaster. However, as an entrepreneur I had to do what I had to do. I wish senior citizens who live alone and also disabled people could have little comfort through this event" said Jun. As he is Gangseo-gu branch chief of Korea Foodservice Industry Association, he plays the role of developing local industries by building a harmonious community with its 4,000 members. He opened a free employment agency in order to solve a manpower shortage and within 3 years he introduced 50,000 employees to member's establishments. He made MOU agreement with related organizations and has maintained multilateral and cooperative relations with them in order to solve the difficulties that the members are having. He is also materializing the plan for direct business of agricultural products in order to reduce the production cost for improving margins. He revealed his ambition by saying "I want to try to solve the systematic problems of the existing laws on deduction rate of fictitious purchase and prohibition against selling alcohol to people under the age of 18. I will try my best to respect for older people and to devote myself, as an entrepeneur, to developing the regional economy." I noticed a true entrepreneurship of our time from Jun who attributes his success to his employees.
