영남 거창이 낳은 한국화 발묵분야 대한명인

생명의 원초적 아름다움을 간직한 설화수묵화 창조

500여년전 영남 거창에서는 3대 대학자 갈천 임훈, 퇴계 이황, 남명 조식 선생이 거창의 아름답고 뛰어난 절경을 배경으로 각자의 시(詩) 문(文) 화(畵)를 화선지위에 붓끝으로 물들이던 시절이 있었다. ‘라제통문(羅濟通門)’ 서체를 쓰신 갈천 임훈선생의 12대 후손인 남재 임기옥 명인은, 동양화의 발묵기법과 서양화의 마블링 기법을 결합하여 독창적이며 생명의 원초적 아름다움을 발화한 설화(雪花)수묵화를 창조해냈다. 할아버지때부터 아버지 그리고 남재 까지 문화재 집안으로 이어져 내려와 우리나라 최고의 문화예술을 자랑하리만치 그의 집안은 무형문화재의 재능 그 자체를 보여주는 듯하다. 보는이로 하여금 한눈에 사로잡는 남재 임기옥 화백의 수묵화는 그 어떤 형식에도 얽매이지 않는 우아함 그 자체이다. 

도화지에 그려낸 눈꽃송이(Snowflakes), 진한 향기가 느껴진다

  “흐드러지게 하늘에서 내려와 바람을 타고 휘날리는 눈을 진지하게 나타낸 남재 임기옥 선생의 ‘설화(雪花) 수묵화’는 마치 하얀 눈꽃송이로 온 세상에 복을 뿌리며 하얗게 덮는 것과 비슷하다”

  남재 임기옥 명인은 “90년도 6월에 백두산을 올라간 적이 있다. 백두산이 아직 6월이었는데 12월에 눈이 내리는 것이 아닌가! 나는 마음의 눈을 통해 눈이 내리는 것을 신비로운 마음으로 본 후 그 눈꽃송이를 그리기 위해 많은 연구를 했다. 그 덕분에 오늘날의 눈꽃송이 작품이 있는 것이다”고 설명했다. 임기옥 화백은 할아버지 때부터 아버지까지 문화재 집안에서 자라오셨다고 알려져 있다. 임 화백은 “아무리 문화재 집안에서 자랐고 재능이 있다고 해도 노력을 하지 않으면 안 된다. 붓으로 화선지에 연습하기 시작했는데 많이 연습할 때는 트럭1대 분량의 화선지에 연습했다. 손가락에 골이 박히고 붓을 잡지 못하면 손바닥에 놓고 쥐면서 하다가 그것도 굳으면 왼손으로 번갈아 가면서 했다”고 수묵화에 임하는 자세를 전했다. 

‘설화수묵화’로 세계 속 한국의 위상을 널리 알려

  남재 임기옥명인의 작품을 바라보고 있으면 최고를 향한 노력과 국제 사회에서 공인으로써 인정받은 역량이 여기저기 곳곳에서 두각을 나타내고 있다. 임 화백은 개인적으로 대한민국의 투철한 국가관을 갖고 움직이며 그 활동이 매우 광범위하다. 대한민국을 사랑하는 마음으로 가득 차 있는 것을 한눈에 볼 수 있다. 임화백의 수묵화는 지구촌 어디에도 잘 알려져 있다. 임화백의 작품은 그 깊이와 고혹한 자취를 쉽게 찾아볼 수 있다. 특히 수묵화는 최고로 알려져 있으며 각국의 나라에서 임기옥 화백의 수묵화는 절대적인 평을 받고 있다. 

  2000년부터 본격적으로 시작한 눈꽃송이 전시회는 세종문화회관에서 이북어린이 돕기 전시회, 러시아 하바롭스크에서 2번의 전시회, 중국 북경, 길림, 심양등에서도 전시회를 가졌다. 특히 중국의 심양에서 국제 박람회에 초대작가로 참가할 당시에 그의 그림은 독보적일 정도의 주목을 받았다. 또한 임 화백은 ‘설화 수묵화’를 종이가 아닌 한복, 스카프, 타일, 벽지 등에 적용해 2009년 7월 미국 한미우호 문화 행사에서 한복 패션쇼를 시작으로, G20행사 “맑고 밝음 참사랑”이란 주제로 서울 시청광장 패션쇼 등 이름 있는 행사를 진행하여 한국 한복의상의 아름다움을 세계적으로 널리 알렸다. 

자라나는 아이들을 위한 미래비전 제시

  앞으로의 목표에 대해서 임기옥 명인은 “모노크롬(단색 화법) ‘눈꽃송이’를 전 세계인과 공유하고 싶다. 국가적 차원에서 모노크롬 ‘설화’ 미술관을 설립하면 세계인들의 이목이 집중되고 관광유치에 기여를 할 수 있을 것이다”고 말했다. ‘설화’는 미국과 유럽에서 높은 관심을 받고 있으며 그는 현재 미국 Nobel University에서 겸임교수로도 활동하고 있다. 특히 그는 “휴먼 브랜드는 개인의 이름을 브랜드화 해서 대대손손 가업으로 이어갈 수 있는 지적재산이다”며 또한 “우리나라엔 세계적 브랜드가 없다고 해서 다른 나라에서 무시를 당하는 경향도 없지 않다”고 아쉬워 했다. 가능하면 喜壽희수(77세) 안으로 잘 다듬어 세계적 브랜드로 만들어 보고 싶다며 작품으로는 의상 패션을 해보고 싶다고 전했다.

또한 임기옥명인은 자신만이 가지고 있는 특유의 미술재능을 자라나는 어린이들에게 전해주고 있다. 대한민국의 미래를 이끌어나갈 어린이들과 진솔한 전통문화에 대한 교감을 나누면서 교육의 열정뿐 아니라 직접지도로 풍부한 예술적 상상력을 더해주고 있다. 이뿐 아니라 남재 임기옥은 분단의 아픔속에 있는 북한의 어린이들에게도 보다 많은 보탬이 되고자 한다. 임화백은 그의 작품 특성을 살려 북녘의 어린이들에게 꿈과 희망을 심어주는 천사의 아버지로 익히 알려지고 있다. 이처럼 한국의 전통을 국가의 문화적 자산으로 체계화시키고 자신의 재능을 나눔으로 통해 성장시킨다면 대한민국의 문화적 브랜드 가치를 상승시켜 세계속에서 한국의 위상을 높일 것으로 기대해 본다.

There was a time when the three great scholars, Galcheon imhun, Toegye Yihwang, and nammyeong Josik, were dyeing on the rice paper by the tip of a writing brush against beautiful and outstanding scenery of Geochang with their poetry, writing, and painting in Geochang, Yeongnam area 500 years ago. A master Namjae Lim Kiok, the 12th generation's descendant of Galcheon Imhun scholar who wrote the 'Rajetongmun of a style of handwriting, did create black-and-white drawing flowering original and primal beauty of life by combining Balmuk techniques of oriental painting and the marbling techniques of western painting. From his grandfather, his father to Namjae, Cultural Heritage of the house, his family seems to be showing itself, the intangible cultural heritage of his family's talent enough to be proud of our country's premier cultural arts. The black-and-white drawing of painter Namjae Lim Kiok is the elegance itself not tied by any form captivating the 

people's eyes at a glance. 

Snowflakes portray on the drawing paper, deep fragrance is felt

  "Seolhwa Sumukhwa of painter Namjae Lim Kiok seriously expressing the fluttering snow on the wings of the wind down from the heaven, as if the whole world is blessed with white snow sprinkled blossoms." A master, painter Namjae Lim Kiok explained, he climbed Baekdu Mountain in June, 1990. It was in June in Baekdu Mountain, but it was snowing of December! After I saw I was snowing through the mind's eye with the mysterious heart, I did a lot of research to draw the blossoms of snow. Thanks to that, there are the works of snowflakes now." It is known that his grandfather, his father, and himself painter Namjae Lim Kiok grew up in a house of the Cultural Heritage. Painter Namjae Lim Kiok said, "no matter how I grew up in the houseof the Cultural Heritage, and had talents, I should try.  began to practice on the rice paper by the brush at one time, when I practiced the amount of one truck on the rice paper, and I did a lot of practising. When the valley was formed on his finger and couldn't hold the brush, I put it on the palm of his hand, holding it, when it was hardened, I did it alternately with my left hand, which was his posture for  his ink painting.  

Made known Korea's phase into the world with Seolhwa Sumukhwa 

  When you look at the works of the expert Namjae Lim Kiok, efforts toward the best and recognized competence certified by the international community stands out here and there. Painter Lim Kiok works with a clear view of state personally his activity is very broad, from which you can see at a glance artist Lim Kiok filled with the love for the Republic of Korea. The artist's black-and-white drawing is well known across the world. A alluring trace and the depth of his works can be found easily. In particular, his black-and-white drawing is best known, getting an absolute evaluation around the country. The exhibition of snowflakes began in earnest in 2000, was held in Sejong Center for the Performing Arts to help children in the north Korea, and two times exhibition was held in Khabarovsk, Russia. His exhibitions were held  Beijing China, Jilin, Shenyang etc. In particular, when he was invited to participate in the international exhibition in China's Shenyang, his works attracted public attention without equal. In addition, he applied his ink-and-wash painting to Hanbok, Korean traditional clothes, scarves, tile, and wallpaper etc not on the rice paper at the Korea-US Friendship Cultural Events inJuly, 2009, starting  Hanbok fashion show, and G20 event as the theme of "true love clear brightness",  

Seoul City Hall Plaza events, fashion show, he announced world-wide the beauty of Korea Hanbok Costumes, hosting the famous events.

Propose suture vision for growing children

  Painter Namjae Lim Kiok said about future goals, "I want to share Monochrome (single color painting method) 'Snow Blossom' with people around If the. Monochrome snowflakes museum established at the national level, which world's attention is focused on and it will be able to contribute to tourist attractions." 'The painting on Snowflakes' is receiving high interest from the United States and Europe. He is active currently in an adjunct professor at American Nobel University. In particular, he said, "human brand is the intellectual property and continues generation after generation as the family business by making brand 'the name of the individual," He missed, "as we has no global brand, we tend to suffer from other countries." If possible, he wants to make the world brand on fashion clothes as his works by polishing well within his age of 77.
  In addition, a master Lim Kiok is giving its own unique talents of the art to the children who are growing up. He is adding rich artistic imagination by his direct teaching, as well as the passion of the education, exchanging consensus on true traditional culture with children who will lead the future of the Republic of Korea. And he would like to be more useful for North Korea's children in the division of the pain. Painter Lim Kiok is already well known to be the father of an angel instilling hopes and dreams in the children of the north Korea by taking advantage of the characteristics of his work. If organizing Korea's tradition as the country's cultural assets, growing it through the sharing of his talents, which will raise the brand value of the cultural of the Republic of Korea, through which we are looking forward to see the phase of Korea.
