Dreaming of the rebirth of the national golf course industry

CEO Kim, Gye-Hwan of Korea Golf Consulting Corporation

Already, it has been almost one hundred years for golf to arrive in Korea. In early 1900¡¯s, the golf course business has started to be rooted solidly as a sport after the liberation since Han-yang Country Club and Tae-reung Country Club was open back then. Like that, the golf was spread out really quickly but, it has been having a negative look from people because it was thought as a sport for rich people only as a luxurious sport strongly. The golf market that has had that look from the people, we had a rapid economic development in the 80¡¯s and 90¡¯s with an amazing repetition and, it is now making about 4 trillion annually, which is a huge scale. However, recently, those golf course places that was sprung up everywhere happened to be broke due to the financial problem a lot. Why is that reason? By that, monthly Power Korea Magazine listened to the current status of the national golf course industry by meeting CEO Kim, Gye-Hwan of Korea Golf Consulting Corporation, which is the first Korean total golf consulting company.

Showing the first Korea¡¯s new concept total golf consulting

Currently, the number of people who visit the golf course in Korea is estimated about 28 millions. For a while, it was increasing in the rate of customer but it became at a standstill from one day. However, the number of golf places is over 500 to be saturated. This kind of imbalance of demand and supply is increasing and it caused a profit and the number of visitors to drop hugely. However, many golf courses are getting broken, even though they want to get in the M&A market but don¡¯t really like it.

Especially, separated single golf courses or golf places what are preparing for opening in the rural areas are suffering from showing lack of membership, ambiguousness of golf course PF, expenses for the interests against the investment and lacking of visitors etc. After all, to solve all the problems, there is Korea Golf Consulting Corporation for the total golf consuming for the first time in Korea. They are suggesting a new paradigm for the golf industry with working on the project feasibility analysis of new golf course business, setting up the sectors, consigned operation including course management, marketing, human resources, organic management for the customer, sales, joint purchasing equipments and materials, golf tour, planning the golf competition, agency business and management consulting like one-stop service. If best experts in every field of golf are focusing on that with their know-how and the optimal system, the consigner operation will increase the profit and prime cost and expenses for managing would be saved as well.

CEO Kim, Gye-Hwan said, ¡°Like that, some parts of being able to develop poor golf course business that are struggling with financial problems should be saved the fixed costs via the consigned operation. If that will keep going on like now, our golf clubs might be possible handed over the foreign investment like Japan or many golf businesses would be broke and destroyed. It must be a solution to draw a big picture in mind by a sophisticated consigned operation.¡±

Time for innovation of national golf courses

CEO Kim, Gye-Hwan explained, ¡°There is another assignment and it is an effort to get rid of a tag of awareness about the luxurious sport in the past and have a resolution for heavy taxes in variety with wisdom so that they could propose charging structure with a premise of a young generation would be a member with their families.¡± This is why we cannot change the organic generation change due to reducing the population of the next generation with the baby-boomers retirement. Therefore, it is time to innovate so that everyone can access the sport from minimizing the costs and lowering the expenses like other countries.

CEO Kim, Gye-Hwan who is leading to go through all the problems for the golf courses in trouble by his know-how of various ways for the low-cost structure, which he gained from his hands-on experiences also talked about his goal of he would like to make people think of the golf is a popular sport that everyone can enjoy with the culture of the righteous golf culture with providing advanced management concept of running the golf business. This is for all the people without gender or age. By that, Monthly Power Korea assumes there is no problem for CEO Kim, Gye-Hwan to make a big step forward for the poor golf businesses with his accurate decision and correct analysis.
