Samsung Heavy Industry announced that they made a contract of LOA on building CFP (Central Processing Facility) with the Japanese Australian INPEX which is developing natural resources on January 16, 2012, and the contract came into effect.

CFP, a kind of ocean floating production facilities, which is going to paly a role of developing and treating gas in the oil field. Samsung obtained the order of CFP which is the largest in the world, 110m wide and long respectively, one hundred thousand gross weight including superstructure and substructure, and the amount of order is 2.6trillion won, which is the largest sum in its kind of plant history. The official of Samsung Heavy Industry said that "when, under the contract of LOA, the contract payment is signed including extra equipment, the size of the total order we obtained is expected to reach 3 trillion won." This is the size of exporting 100 thousand midium-sized cars and  3 million latest smart phones at the same time. Meanwhile, the CFP Samsung Heavy Industry is going to construct is planned to be listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's biggest ocean plant. Samsung Heavy Industry, especially, by made a contract in this obtaining the order of EPC method in which Samsung obtained the order on production, purchase, plan, transportation, etc in batches. The contract has been a key factor through which Samsung has become recognized in the ability to perform ocean utility work So Samsung became to occupy the extra-large ocean plant in advance. Samsung plans to sign an agreement with INPEX in February, starts to construct in 2013, and deliver in the fourth quater of 2015.

INPEX founded the joint company (76%/24%) with Total company of France, is pushing ahead to develop the gas field of Ichthys in the Browse mining area 200km to the northwest sea of Australia.

In this contract we were awarded the ocean facility CPF, the floating facility to store crude oil FPSO (Floating Production Storage and Off-loading), and overland LNG plant all at once. Of them, CPF will be handled by Samsung, the overland LNG plant will be dealt by JKC JV (Japanese company), and FPSO is not decided yet. It is know that the budget to be injected to the development of the mining area is 34 billion dollars. The gas produced and treated from CFP is going to be transported to the overland LNG plant (located in Darwin City of Australia) through 885km ocean floor pipeline. The INPEX company plans to produce 100 thousand gas condensate a day, eight million tons of natural gas and 1.6 million tons of LPG a year, and supply them to Japan, Taiwan, etc.

The incident of Japanese atomic power plant last year has triggered the demand of LNG as eco-friendly alternative energy in the business circles. Since International oil prices are expected to continue to skyrocket in the aftermath of America's recent blockade of the Straits of Hormuz, it is likely that the development of gas fields in all parts of the world will become active.

Meanwhile, Samsung Heavy Industry that set a goal to obtain orders of 12.5 billion dollars this year, 70% of which will be expected to be achieved from ocean plants, is turning over a new leaf as a company specializing in shipbuilding and marine engineering plant.

The president Rho Insik of Samsung Heay Industry noted that "Samsung Heavy Industry is making a new history of ¡ºthe ocean gas plant¡»by making a contract  on constructing the world's largest size of CFP, on the heels of getting to the construction of the world's first LNG-FPSO last year."

And he said that "we're going to take the lead the world market with the accumulation of the best technology. "
